EISTEDDFOD VOLUNTEERS

Townsville Eisteddfod Inc. is a non-profit organisation and relies totally on voluntary effort.
Our volunteers work in an atmosphere of friendly teamwork. Most volunteers like to work on sessions in which they have a personal interest and where they can meet people with similar interests. Many of our current volunteers are former competitors or parents of former competitors. There is always time for social interaction.
As far as possible, tasks are allocated to suit the individual's skills and preferences and the hours they are willing to commit.

An Information Evening is planned for early June to give general information on all aspects of volunteering.

Typical Tasks -

Chairpersons announce items, changes, rulings and results and conduct prize presentations. (best suited to people used to speaking in public, conducting meetings, etc.)

Doorkeepers take tickets at the door, issue pass outs and ensure the comfort and safety of all patrons.Townsville Civic Theatre staff provide a brief training session for doorkeepers about 2 weeks before the Eisteddfod commences.

Pencillers act as the adjudicator's assistant, allowing the adjudicator to focus on the performance rather than the paperwork (most adjudicators prefer to dictate their notes).

Marshals work backstage, organising competitors before their performances.

Timekeepers time each item where time limits apply.

Drivers take adjudicators to and from venues, accommodation.

Ticket and Programme Sales.

General administration tasks (these may start in May and continue to the end of the Eisteddfod).

Many of these tasks require the volunteer to hold a Queensland Government "Blue Card" - our Committee can help you obtain one.

COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

Townsville Eisteddfod Inc. is incorporated as a not-for-profit organisation. Members pay a small subscription fee to join the Committee and elect office bearers to run the organisation. All members are unpaid volunteers, but Office-bearers who work for the Eisteddfod throughout the year may be paid a stipend.

We especially need teachers or ex-teachers in the relevant arts to take part in our sub-committees, which write and interpret the rules, choose adjudicators and keep us up-to-date with trends in each discipline.
The sub-committees have a light work-load, typically 3 meetings a year.
