VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED

The 2009 Townsville Eisteddfod
- running from the 9th to the 26th September 2009 -
requires volunteers to help with doorkeeping, timekeeping and pencilling.

We hold up to 4 sessions of approximately 3 hours length for all the days in the first week (Speech & Music), and 3 sessions of 3 hours length in the second week (Dancing), at up to 3 venues.

The three venues are the Civic Theatre, the Choral Society Hall and Pimlico Performing Arts Complex (PimPAC) subject to entries. Volunteers are required at the Civic Theatre from the first to the last days of the Eisteddfod. PimPAC may be used on weekends where entries and availability permit, and the Choral Society Hall is in operation for a week, usually beginning on the first Saturday.

We require one timekeeper and one penciller at each session and venue. The number of doorkeepers required varies with venue and programming requirements.

Doorkeepers -
Civic
  • Doorkeepers at the Civic Theatre are required to be at the venue 45 minutes prior to the starting time of the session
  • At this venue doorkeepers are required to be on hand at this time to be updated as to special arrangements eg schools seating and also to be trained in use of the call buttons
  • A doorkeeper at the Civic Theatre is required to attend Doorkeeper training which takes place over approximately a two hour period 14 days before the Eisteddfod commences
  • We are unable to give an exact date at this time but will inform as to the date of the Doorkeeper training as soon as it is available

Timekeepers
  • Timekeepers are required to time each item that takes place during their session
  • except where no time limits apply
  • A briefing is provided on the use of equipment and timing procedures
  • There is no ringing of bells (except in some speech sections) however you are required to let the adjudicator know if an item is over time.
Pencillers
  • Pencillers act as the adjudicator's secretary
  • To be able to do this effectively you must be able to act with initiative within the Eisteddfod's rules and regulations
  • A preliminary schedule is available upon request to ensure that all pencillers are up-to-date with changes to rules and regulations
  • If an event occurs that is not covered within the preliminary schedule a member of the Committee is always available in the Green Room
  • You are also expected to drive the adjudicator to and from the venue and write to dictation
  • A list of specific words that relate to technical terminology is available upon request
